Word Of The Day | NC Photographer

Happy “Hump” Day everyone

I hope it’s going well.

I was thinking of what I was going to blog about today not for the lack of photos I have tons of those but just to do a variety of things to keep it fresh.

With that thought process in mind I decided to blog about a particular photo that has to do with this game that I play with fellow photographers called “P.A.D” which is short for Photo A Day.

The objective of the game is to come up with a creative photo that depicts or illustrates a particular word for the day. So at the beginning of each month one member post a list of different words one that represents each day of the month and our goal is to go out and shoot something that best illustrates that word for the day.

We always try to think outside the box, be creative and I especially try not to use the most obvious meaning if a particular word has several just as an extra challenge to myself.

This was not going to be easy for the word listed for the 15th of April, which was “Complex”.

Complex had several meanings, which was great, and there were two obvious ones and 2 that were a little to out there to even have a photo concept with at least I thought they were.

The 2 Obvious ones:

1: a whole made up of complicated or interrelated parts

1a: or intricate / complicated <used as an adjective>

4: a building or group of buildings housing related units <an apartment complex> <a sports complex>

Now that these were my only true options I had to see how I can use one of them and be a little creative plus think outside the box well I decided to use meaning # 1 and I was going to use a Rubix Cube my husband had from the 80′s yes, he still has it but as my luck would have it the cube was nowhere to be found. A real shame I had the shoot all thought out in my head I was going to make it look all spacey and scientific like in the background I wanted to depict intricate / complicated so I went to plan B and shot this:

complex

As I was looking for the Rubix Cube I came across Jenga in the box so I decided that maybe I can use both meanings in #1

1: a whole made up of complicated or interrelated parts

this makes one structure and the blocks have to be built opposite of the row before so they are sort of woven.

1a: or intricate / complicated <used as an adjective>

I don’t know really how complicated people would consider this game but it’s not as easy to remove one block from the center without the whole thing falling down.

I personally like how the photo turned out and I am glad you can see the details in the game structure.

The “PAD” is real great game as it’s a source to help be more creative and think outside the box plus it gets you to go out and shoot more as well look at things a little different than you would have normally. I love to see what the ladies come up with each day for it’s also a wonderful learning tool for us all.
