The “N” Challenge

Monday, March 26th, 2012

From March 19th through today iheartfaces  is hosting a Social Media ABC Photo Challenge with this month being The Letter “N”.

Since I enjoyed doing their letter “A” challenge in February I decided to try this one as well.

I started this time by jotting down as many things that started with the letter “N” that I knew I had here at home then I started going down the list brainstorming different ways to photograph the particular items.

One thing I definitely have learned this time around is that I need to be more creative with setting up the items I intend to shoot.

This first set is notebooks, nickels & nutmeg.

The next 2 is newspaper & my Nikon caps. Yes, I am a Nikon girl.

The last set is a basketball net & numbers on a calculator.

Soaking Up The Sun

Monday, March 19th, 2012

Inspired by iheartfaces Black & White March Challenge and the fact that I love black & white photos I was thrilled to capture a photo of my girl Midnight soaking up the sun.

The weather has been absolutely gorgeous.  I think we skipped a real winter this year and may be skipping spring as it feels more like summertime.

We have been taking full advantage of running and playing outside just in case the yucky weather decides to make an appearance.

Project MCP March Challenge

Monday, March 12th, 2012

Last week I was reading a blog post over at MCP Actions and saw that they were doing a photography project called Project MCP.

The purpose of this project is to help photographers develop their photography skills and I am all for developing my photography skills so I decided to take up the challenge for myself here on the blog and try their March week 1 and 2 challenge.

Week 1 challenge was to:  Take a picture from a high vantage point, from above your subject.
While week 2 was to: Capture a photo using natural light.

Well, I decided to combine both weeks and work on some food photography which I so love doing. I enjoy discovering new recipes and trying them out while taking the opportunity to photography them.  Below is a Fried Rice Recipe project I was working on that I found on Pinterest and tweaked slightly. I must say it was a hit the family loved it and I am definitely adding it to our recipe book.

I’ve included the recipe below just in case; you would like to try it.

Fried Rice

Ingredients:

3 cups cooked white rice it is important to use a day old or leftover rice that is the secret

3 tbs sesame oil

1 1/2 cup frozen peas, carrots and corn (thawed)

1 small onion, chopped

2 tsp minced garlic

2 eggs, slightly beaten

1/4-cup soy sauce

Preparation:

On medium high heat, heat the oil in a large skillet or wok.

Add the peas/carrots /corn mix, onion and garlic.

Stir-fry until tender.

Lower the heat to medium low and push the mixture off to one side, then pour your eggs on the other side of skillet and stir fry until scrambled.

Now add the rice and soy sauce and blend all together well.

Stir fry until thoroughly heated!

**You could really play around with this rice too! Try adding some diced ham, or green onion :) **
