While the in-laws were visiting us this Easter we took them to Tiger World in Rockwell, NC to check out all the animals.

Tiger World is a nonprofit animal conservation  and educational center dedicated to rescue, rehabilitation, and preservation of exotic animals. They are open to the public for educational guided tours and walkabout self-guided tours.

The animals are housed in big generous cages surrounded by chain linked fences that help keep visitors a safe distance away and hands out of the cages.

For me this proved to be a difficult to photograph the animals as I had to shoot through a cage and chain link fences that were either diamond shaped or rectangular. The diamond shaped ones were a lot easier for me to get my telephoto lens angled so that it made the fence disappear while the rectangular shaped fencing and cages where a totally different story those were just not cooperating as much as I would have liked.

If anyone, has any tips for working around these situations I would love to know.

We weren’t able to go earlier than mid-afternoon so the sun was shining brightly but I was able to work around that easier than  shooting through the fences. It also helped that it wasn’t as crowded so I was able to stand there a play with the angles until I found the sweet spot.

Anyway, the photos below is a little taste of what I was able to capture.

This jaguar below was housed in a rectangular cage as well as protected by a rectangular chain linked fence. It didn’t turn out too bad considering the circumstances.

This beautiful tiger in the next couple of photos was all the way in the back of the diamond shaped cage and protected by a diamond shaped chain linked fence which made it a lot easier for me to photograph.

The Bengal tiger was originally hanging out in the front of the cage but thank goodness it moved when he saw the truck pass by and decided to go towards the back to investigate making it easier for me to photograph him.

This cutie was taking a siesta when we stopped by her cage.
